'Moonshine' is a gardener's favorite, with
its flat-topped, 2- to 3-in. clusters of lemony yellow flowers atop sturdy 18-
to 24-in. stems and striking silvery gray foliage. Excellent as a cut flower or
as part of a naturalized border. Long blooming.
Commemorating Achilles, the brave hero of the Trojan War, who was virtually
invulnerable—except for his heel—achillea, or yarrow, has long been reputed
to have healing properties. Used to stanch wounds in battle, it has been called
soldier’s woundwort. Other common names are carpenter grass and sneezewort.
Hardy and easy to grow, this perennial herb is virtually pest- and disease-free.
Clumps expand quickly; divide to keep manageable.
