Washingtonia Filifera
The California Fan Palm is native to the desert oases of California and Arizona. Its appearance is similar to the Mexican Fan Palm, but with a much thicker and more massive trunk and larger grey-green fronds. It thrives in the low and high deserts of the Southwest, as well as along the coast. In addition to its use around taller buildings and along street and drive borders, it makes a bold statement as a large accent tree. Among the hardiest of all large palms, the California Fan Palm grows well down to 14 degrees. It is commercially available in sizes to 30 feet and will reach a height of 40 feet at a rate of one foot per year with ample water.
