Soil Pest Rx,
Beneficial nematodes - Care & Handling
Soil Pest Rx
Beneficial
Nematodes products should always be very fresh to maintain their high quality
and vitality. When picked up at your garden center they should have been
refrigerated.
KEEP REFRIGERATED - until you are ready to use them. Use within 2 weeks of
purchase or before the expiration date.
DO NOT FREEZE - you will kill them, you may refrigerate them for a few days
before you use them.
DO NOT EXPOSE TO HEAT - you will “cook” them. Soil Pest Rx on
sponges cannot take the heat for more than a few hours. Do not leave packages
exposed to direct heat above 85F. for more than a few hours.
DO NOT EXPOSE TO SUNLIGHT - it will sterilize them within minutes and kill them
shortly there after.
REMEMBER TO WATER - you need to drench the soil in the area you are applying
Soil Pest Rx.
Contact
with dry surfaces may kill them. They are creatures that depend on moisture to
help them move through the soil to search out and kill the pests that are
causing problems to your plants.
ALWAYS USE THE ENTIRE PACKAGE - once the seal is broken it would be difficult to
maintain the product quality and its effectiveness.
HOW MANY TO USE? - the established and proven science regarding the use of
beneficial nematodes for pest control continues to conclusively show that in
most circumstances you need to apply 15,000 (Flea control), 20,000 to 25,000
(Cutworms, Grubs & Weevils) to 30,000 (Root Knot Nematode) per square foot.
How many, depends on the pest being controlled and the level of the pest
infestation.
ABP Bio Control packages and labels the correct species of
beneficial nematode with the coverage area and the pests controlled to make the
selection process quite easy and hassle free. Do not be fooled by suggested
rates on any competing brand labels that suggest 1,000,000 per 1,000 to 3,000
square feet. Such claims cannot be supported by any of the current credible
scientific evidence developed & gathered through research at leading
universities and nematode producers.
Easy application of the Soil Pest Rx
in
this package can be done with a garden hose (at least 50 to 75 feet) and a hose
end sprayer. In the event your retailer does not have our specially designed
sprayer then select an Ortho or Gillmore dial sprayer (for ease of use I like
the Ortho dial sprayer) .
Soil Pest Rx
are
compatible with most fungicides, insecticides and herbicides. Contact your
retailer or us for the latest test details.

Application
USE IN THE VERY EARLY MORNING OR LATE AFTERNOON
OR EARLY EVENING.
FOG AND LIGHT RAIN DAYS ARE GREAT !
Soil Pest Rx Application
1) Prepare to
make your application in the early morning or late afternoon, strong sunlight
will sterilize or kill them.
2) Do not apply to dry soils or dry grass. It is best to wet the area to be
treated for a few minutes and then make your application.
3) Remember the
minimum amount you want is 15,000 (Fleas) to 20,000 (Cutworms & Grubs) per
square feet, in most circumstances. If in doubt then measure the area to be
applied to make sure you have at least the minimum amount required to get
effective control of your pest problem.
4) Fill your
ABP Bio
Control Sprayer, Ortho or Gillmore sprayer with un-softened water to halfway mark.
Remove the package Soil Pest Rx
from
your cooler or refrigerator and fill the cup half way with water, use a small
amount of water to rinse the lid contents into the white cup or sprayer (there
are nematodes on there).
Put into the
sprayer or watering can;
the liquid and sponge contents of the white cup
the little sponge that is the white cup
the rinse from the cup and lid.
Secure the lid
tightly and shake for a minute or so. Then fill to “full level” mark on the
sprayer. Let the applicator sit for 15 to 20 minutes, KEEP OUT OF SUNLIGHT.
Lightly rinse the cup and the lid that the beneficial nematodes came in into the
spray bottle or water can.
MAKE SURE THE FILTER SCREEN IS REMOVED FROM THE STEM OF
SPRAYER
5) After that
and prior to the application turn on your sprinkler system and apply up to 1/2
inch of water. For most systems this is about 5 to 10 minutes. DRY & HOT
SURFACES WILL RESULT IN THE DEATH OF Soil Pest Rx
.
6) When using a Ortho dial sprayers put the setting on 2 1/2. When using a
Gillmore sprayer set the dial to number #5. Then attach to a hose and apply Soil
Pest Rx
.
After completing the first coverage pass repeat process until the area you want
to treat has been properly covered.
7) There may be some Soil Pest Rx
solution
still left in the applicator so fill the unit halfway up and reapply the
remaining solution to the treated areas. If you are using sponge packed
Soil Pest
Rx
. Remove
the sponge from the applicator and dispose of it in the garbage
8) After completion of the application turn on your sprinkler system and apply
1/2 to 1 inch of water. For most sprinkler systems this is about 10 to 15
minutes. You have now done soil pest control for the next 4 to 6 months for most
mild or temperate regions and often the whole growing season for colder climates.
